Securing Our Future: New Executive Director Appointed for BC Centre for Ability

By April 9, 2018News

The Board of Directors of the BCCFA Association announces the appointment of our new Executive Director, Dr. Andy Basi. Dr. Basi is an experienced healthcare executive, project manager and quality leader who brings more than thirty years’ experience in both small and large organizations. He has worked at organizations including the Workers’ Compensation Board of BC, BC Children’s Hospital, BCIT and the BCMA. And he has a long and diverse background of volunteer contributions as a leader of both professional and community organizations (including as Chair of the South Asian Advisory Committee of the Canadian Cancer Society).

The BCCFA Board is confident that Dr. Basi has the skills and experience to lead our future success, in partnership with the Centre’s extraordinary, caring team. And we’re very pleased to have found a new ED who brings extensive knowledge of, and leadership experience in, the BC healthcare system.

Dr. Basi will join BCCFA on March23rd, to provide a brief period of transition with our retiring Executive Director (ED) Angela Kwok (who has been the ED of BCCFA since 2005 and has worked with the Centre for more than 40 years). Ms. Kwok’s last day as BCCFA ED will be March 29th.

As the new Executive Director of BCCFA, Dr. Basi will focus on the Centre’s clinical service role, and not be taking on responsibility for leadership of BCCFA Foundation or related philanthropic activities. Angie’s retirement as ED, and changes in volunteer leadership at the BCCFA Foundation, have led to reflection and renewal for the Foundation regarding its role and the most effective way it can support the Centre.

The Boards of the BCCFA Association and BCCFA Foundation are engaged in collegial and productive discussion regarding the Foundation’s future role and scope of activities in support of the Centre. Further information regarding the outcome of these discussions will be shared as it becomes available, likely in mid- to late-2018.

Please direct any questions about this transition to the BCCFA Association Board of Directors, c/o Mary Lui, Executive Assistant, BCCFA (mary.lui@bc-cfa.org).
