We’re excited to welcome Emma as our new Leader of Social Work Services!

Emma GauvinPrior to joining us at BCCFA, Emma was the team lead for the Overdose Outreach Team with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). She has served as Chair of the BC College of Social Workers QI Committee, was a sessional instructor in the School of Social Work at UBC and volunteered on nonprofit boards including First United Housing Society and Megaphone Magazine.

Working at the Downtown Eastside with various VCH programs with a focus on their community mental health and substance use program, Emma has spent significant time learning about early childhood development, adverse childhood experiences and resilience. Over the last few years, she has specialized in team leadership and supervision of frontline staff. As BCCFA’s Leader of Social Work Services, Emma will be supporting her team of 13, who operate in 6 programs serving clients and families.

“I know clients and families are better served when staff are well supported. I really enjoy finding ways to support and engage team members. The best part of my job is meeting with social workers to help brainstorm challenges, celebrate successes, and find creative ways to meet the needs of our families.”

“Inclusion is a big motivator for me. Inclusion was what drew me to working in the Downtown Eastside and remained a motivator the whole time I was there. All of the programs I worked with were geared towards including marginalized communities in health care services and providing that service in a dignified and client-centred way. I love that inclusion is part of the Vision for the Centre for Ability.”

“I am looking forward to working with such a great team. The social workers and the administrative supports for the social work department are so skilled, knowledgeable and experienced. I am already so proud to work with them and love the passion they bring to their work.”
