Who are the OHS Committee Members?

When should I talk to an OHS Committee Member?

All CFA staff are encouraged to speak with their designated contact regarding any of the following issues:

  • Reporting incidents/concerns related to staff health & safety
  • Questions/comments regarding meeting minutes
  • Expressions of interest to become involved with the OHS committee and/or initiatives
  • Any other item/comment related to staff health and safety

What is it?

The Occupational Health & Safety committee consists of both labor and management representatives who meet on a regular basis to deal with health and safety issues.

What is your mandate?

The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Committee’s mandate, according to WorkSafe BC includes responsibilities such as:

  • Promoting safe work practices
  • Assisting in creating a safe and healthy workforce
  • Recommending actions that will improve the effectiveness of the OHS program
  • Promoting compliance with WCB Regulation

What does an OHS meeting consist of?

The OHS Committee meets the on the third Tuesday of every month. All meeting minutes are posted within the CFA mail room and on the OHS staff page .  Monthly topics discussed include: Issues from this month`s building inspection, review of outstanding issues, review of first aid and accident/incident investigations.

What do I do if I think I have a work-related disease or illness?

Report work-related diseases as soon as you notice the symptoms. Even if you`re not working or you`ve changed-jobs when you realize you have a work-related disease, contact WorkSafeBC right away.
